Yesterday someone sent me a link to the 5 Friends video, which is a non-partisan reminder to register to vote. It was entertaining, informative, filled with celebrities, and even has a googlemaps link to register online.
In the spirit of "just to be certain," I called our local Registrar of Voters, and discovered I was no longer a registered voter. Huh??? I've voted in every election since 1974 ... so how could I suddenly not be registered? For unknown reasons, the Postal Service had told them I moved. Two of the four adults in our house had been removed from the voter registration list, and we had no idea it had happened.
Luckily, in California, the final registration date is Monday, October 20, so we were both able to re-register Friday afternoon.
The moral of the story? Take a moment to confirm that your voter registration is active. I would have been one unhappy puppy on election day if I hadn't done so myself.
