Last Sunday I posted a sneak peek at my new favorite Antique store, In Your Wildest Dreams, right here in Bakersfield. Truth is, I've only been there once so far, but I spent the entire afternoon and came home with some great goodies.
I've been saving two very special photos from that visit, to share on Pink Saturday. Not everything in this post is pink, but you will love the vintage pink I found while I was there. Pink Saturday is hosted by Beverly at How Sweet The Sound. Click here for a full list of this week's participants.
In Your Wildest Dreams is located downtown, across the street from the post office and next door to an ancient residential hotel.
It's exactly the type of store you'd hope to find in a pre-Eisenhower era downtown that has mainly been left behind as people and businesses moved into the 'burbs ... 21,000 square feet of antiques and collectibles, spread over 3 floors, including:
A main floor featuring vintage clothing, shoes, and jewelry, plus assorted collectibles and film memorabilia.
A jam-packed basement filled with old and funky furnishings, artwork, and light fixtures.
.
A rather dark and spooky second floor that's chock full of old wedding dresses, vintage appliances and hardware, marked-down glassware and china, and value-priced furniture that didn't make the cut for downstairs.
I was up in this dark attic-type area, shortly before sundown, when I came across this FABULOUS PINK KELVINATOR wringer washing machine:
Isn't she gorgeous? I would have loved to bring her home, if I had any reasonable space to display her ... she reminded me of Rosie, the robot maid from The Jetsons cartoon series.
Here's another appliance I fell in love with:
Just look at the details on this baby! Not one, but TWO art deco style recessed cubbies to hold porcelain stove-top shakers, ooo la la! And look at the quilted pattern on both of the fold-down burner cover panels -- and also on the backsplash -- plus the funky knobs, shapely legs, and adorable warming/storage drawers. True love, I'm tellin' ya ...
Last Sunday, I showed you this plaque ... it hangs on the wall on the main floor of In Your Wildest Dreams. Right next to it, laid out like a charming alley with antiques displayed all around, are the actual building-front sets from Citizen Kane ... what a surprise!
Click on the photos if you want to see larger, more detailed pics.
These displays and vignettes were adjacent to the Citizen Kane storefronts:
There's no elevator in this big old building, but it was designed for easily moving things from floor to floor. There are wide concrete ramps between floors -- wide enough for a car or truck -- running along one side of the building.
This is the ramp leading between the first floor and the basement, showing the walls on either side of the ramp:
And this is the ramp I walked up -- alone -- to explore the top floor as the sun was going down. In the center of this pic, you can see a white door at the bottom of the ramp. The door opens into the vintage clothing area on the first floor. I left the door open behind me when I went up, just in case ...
I hope you enjoyed visiting In Your Wildest Dreams with me. Bakersfield has many other terrific antiques and collectibles stores, including three large antique malls located in our historic downtown.
